Longside travelled to play FC Stoneywood on Saturday in the Superleague but couldn’t overcome the mid-table side.
The 13th minute proved unlucky for Longside when Stevenson ran onto a Rintoul through ball only to be blocked by Thomson with referee Vietch immediately producing a red card.
Panton was the unfortunate player who had to come off to allow Danton to go between the sticks.
Whyte was inches away from giving Longside the lead when he got on the end of a Taylor free kick but Gibson came out to clear the danger. The home side tested stand in keeper Danton with some long range shots but he managed to deal with them comfortably.
The home side came close in the 38th minute when Stephen rose to head the ball just over the bar.
Stoneywood went ahead in the 47th minute when a low ball across goal saw Stephen control the ball and slot it past Danton with a static Longside defence looking on.
Longside were struggling to create any chances although Taylor saw his header go narrowly over the bar. Stainton replaced Usher in the 60th minute and he was soon in action when he crossed the ball into the middle for Davidson and his goalbound header was tipped over the bar by the alert Gibson.
The home side increased their lead in the 70th minute when they were awarded a free kick just outside the box, Cromar flighted the ball over the wall and into the net past Danton who got a hand to it but couldn’t keep it out.
The scoring was complete in 85 minutes when Cromar scored with an almost carbon copy free kick.
With games running out for Longside this was a huge result and losing your goalkeeper after 13 minutes was not the ideal situation, but the ten men battled hard to keep it even until half-time.
Sadly, once they went behind the result was inevitable. This Saturday Longside are away to near neighbours Maud in the Superleague (ko 2.30pm).
