It was a successful end to the outdoor cycle track season for 16 year-old Mintlaw Academy student Zak Loney.

Zak beat strong opposition to have a double podium at the Dundee Autumn Track Meeting on Saturday and Sunday, September 7 and 8.

Zak who rides for LFH Engineering and is sponsored by LFH Engineering Limited of Ellon, came second in the Junior Scottish National 20km Scratch Championship behind 18 year old Mark Stewart of Dundee.

In a gruelling race in windy conditions Zak was on top form and just narrowly missed out on gold to take silver from Sean Noon of Edinburgh who finished in bronze medal position.

Zak also achieved a magnificent third place in the Tay Bridge Trophy 5 mile in a race dominated by senior riders the day after on Sunday 8.

Zak told the Buchanie: “It is an honour to cycle for my sponsor LFH Engineering and the support of the Ellon company has certainly helped me to achieve the results that I have had this year as a first year Junior rider.

“I hope to build on this success as I enter the winter indoor track season and prepare to defend my title of Scottish National Junior Madison Champion.”
