Tennis club plans coaching week

YOUNGSTERS throughout the Buchan area are being invited to take part in a summer programme of tennis coaching at Longside Tennis Club this summer holiday.

The club has decided to offer one week of coaching with Zara Bannerjee, LTA licensed coach, who will be coaching four one-hour sessions each day beginning at 10am with Red Mini Tennis, then Orange at 11am followed by Green Mini Tennis at 12pm and finally a Tennis 1 for older junior players during the week of July 25 to 29.

These lessons follow the colour-coded LTA programme, which is structured to develop the coordination skills, technical and physical abilities of children enabling them to play and enjoy tennis.

The programme is suitable for children from four years upwards. A session for older juniors who can rally and play a game will start 1pm. It is ideal for junior players who want to improve their skills, techniques and game.

Sessions may be changed depending on uptake and further sessions may be added if there are sufficient numbers so all youngsters who are interested should apply. Tennis is a fine sport to take up at any age – why not sign up and bring a friend – or better yet a group could learn together?

The five sessions cost £15 for club members and £20 for non-members per week. Application forms are available from Alfie Thomson at Thomson Butchers, Main Street, Longside.

Longside Tennis Club is really pleased and delighted that Zara is back coaching young players and this summer programme follows a very successful block of lessons in the spring when nearly 30 youngsters were involved.

The club is planning to hold some junior tennis tournaments during the summer months which will be open to all young players in the area.
