Success for young boxers

IT’s been another successful few months for Peterhead’s ABC Boxing Club.

Young fighters Alex Paterson and Artur Selivanos impressed at a recent Championship bout in Edinburgh and, despite losing out on titles, did the club proud.

Coach James Price said: “Alex showed he was a class above his opponent and at times looked close to stopping his opponent, but unfortunately the final score finished 16-12 in favour of his opponent from Rutherglen. I think if Alex boxed the lad 100 times he’d beat him 99 times, he just had an off night.”

The club’s junior boxers triumphed, however, taking home two Gold and two Silver medals.

James explains: “David Dalziel won Gold for the third consecutive year beating an awkward opponent 8 – 2 in the final, James Birch won his Semi 8 – 4 but lost a very close contest in the final. Nathan Morrison’s final finished 9 – 5 which could have went anyway. He won silver.”

“Liam Norris won Gold. He won 18 – 13 in the final against a very good stylish young boxer. An official said it was the best contest of the day, all the officials were speaking about it and good the quality of boxing was.”

“Sean Paterson lost 10 – 7 in a very close semi final, Jordan Rae lost in the semi finals also and Sean Robertson never got a contest but is in the Scotland Development Squad.”

More on boxing soon.
