Following the successful Spring tennis coaching programme in which more than 30 young players took part, Longside Tennis Club is delighted to invite youngsters from the Buchan Area to learn to play and enjoy tennis in their Autumn Junior Tennis Coaching programme.

On Friday afternoons in a six-week programme, LTA licensed coach Brenda Sutherland will be teaching a beginners’ Red group from 4pm to 4.30pm, an Orange group from 4.30pm to 5.15 pm and f inally the Green group from 5.15pm to 6pm.

The programme is structured to develop the coordination skills, technical and physical abilities of children enabling them to play and enjoy tennis.

The Red mini tennis is designed for children between approximately 4 and 6 years, the Orange for approximately 7 to 10 years while the Green is for 11 years and over.

Lessons begin on Friday, August 21.

The six-week block for the Red group costs £20 for non-club members and £15 for members. The Orange and Green fees are £20 for members and £25 for non-members.

As well participating in coaching, joining Longside Tennis Club and playing on club nights, there are plenty of opportunities for young people and adults to play tennis.

Brenda Sutherland, assisted by other Longside Tennis Club volunteers, in conjunction with Active Schools Co-ordinator, Robbie Kupris, is offering indoor soft tennis sessions at Mintlaw Academy on Wednesdays from 4pm to 5 pm starting after the school October break.

The Buchan Tennis League is currently holding its annual tournaments. The Under 12/14/16 singles and doubles are on Saturday, August 22, starting at 10.30am at Udny Tennis Club.

The Mixed Doubles tournament takes place at Cullen Tennis Club on Sunday, August 23. The Ladies’ singles is being held at Udny Tennis Club on Sunday, August 30, while Ellon will host the Men’s singles on the same day.

A team of three men and three ladies from Longside Tennis Club played a similar team from RubislawTennis Club in the annual FlemingTrophy organised by NESLTA (North East Scotland Lawn Tennis Association) onSaturday, August 8, at Longside. Rubislaw proved to be the stronger team winning the contest.

Courts are available for tennis at the All Weather Pitch (Pitfour Park) through MACBI for £9 an hour and £14 with floodlights. Racquets and balls are also available to hire. Bookings can be made at MACBI (01771 624593).
