Settled week of weather at Delgatie

IT was a very settled week weather-wise at Delgatie Castle Trout Fishery and the fish have responded by feeding in the top half of the water with drys, buzzers and small wet flies giving good returns.

The ‘intermediate’ angler is still enjoying success, with white and black fritz, cat’s whisker and yellow dancer proving popular and WSW in olive and black also enticing takes.

The best recorded catches were as follows:

M. Ewen of Turriff (20 fish klinkhammer, buzzers, hopper); S. Easthorpe of Mintlaw (12 fish, CDC); P. O’Donnell of York (ten fish, various dries); P. Cooke of York (ten fish, buzzers); S. Griffiths of Fordyce (nine fish, white fritz, buzzer); N. Thomson of Turriff (eight fish, buzzers); M. James of Lancaster (eight fish, dry/buzzers); B. Milne of Whitehills (seven fish, cat’s whisker) and T. O’Donnel of York (seven fish, buzzers).

The weather looks fair for the coming week until hopefully a welcome shower of rain on Wednesday/Thursday. This might help to freshen up the water.

Delgatie Castle Trout Fishery is a Troutmaster water which is open seven days from 8am till 10pm and beginners and visitors are welcome. Bookings are not necessary and boats, rods and all tackle is available for hire.
