At the start of a new year, why not try your hand at a new and exciting sport?

Peterhead Canoe Club is currently seeking potential water babes and thrill seekers to join its ranks.

The club currently boasts around 40 members - children and adults - with the club’s eldest member at 67 and its youngest at just nine years of age.

At present the club meets in the pool at Peterhead community centre on Fridays from 7.30pm to 8.30pm for juniors and from 8.30pm to 9.30pm for adults.

For those who are interested in starting up an exciting new hobby and who think this could be for them, then why not go along and have go in a safe and warm environment with fun-loving members during one of our sessions.

Club chairman, Daryn Hubbucks, told the Buchanie: “We can cater for up to 16 paddlers at any one time on the water.

“We can supply the equipment all folk need to do is come along with a smile and a sense of humour!”

Daryn says a safety induction is carried out before introducing new members to the water .

They also receive the necessary instruction to get them started paddling under their own steam.

“A coach will watch over new members until they feel comfortable paddling around the pool,” he said.

“If anyone would like to come along then they should come on a Friday evening.

“I look forward to meeting everyone and get them started in this exciting sport,” he added.
