Opening race for the doos

Peterhead & District Racing Pigeon Club sent an incredible 678 birds to the opening race of the 2011 old bird season which was flown from Brechin (58 miles to the shortest flyer to 68miles to the longest flyers) this past weekend.

New North of Scotland Federation race controller Davie Hay had to contend with fog in the morning and quite rightly delayed the liberation until 12noon.

Then the total convoy of 2,486 birds were released into no wind with broken sunshine and high cloud with the convoyer stating that they were out of sight in seconds.

Taking the first two places were Clint Williams and new partner, daughter Mhairi who had a yearling cock and yearling hen arrive together after just 57 minutes to record an average speed of over 60mph.

Alan and Michael Geddes had three drop together to take the next three places.

Returns were very good, making it a good start to 2011.
