Organisers of this year’s Peterhead Scottish Week Marinathon will be hoping the weather holds out, after last year’s downpour affected the turnout.
The popular Marinathon - where competitors can walk, jog or run the 3km course - will take place at the Lido Marina on Monday, July 18.
This year the Marinathon will have the Rio Olympics as its theme, and those heading along are being encouraged to dress up accordingly to be in with a shout of a spot prize.
All abilities and ages are.welcome to go along to the Lido on Monday night.
Entry to the event is £2 for both adults and children, however the number of entrants will be limited to 400.
Registration will take place at the Sailing Club from 6pm to 6.50pm, and this will close once the limit is reached.
Organiser Stephen Bruce, of Peterhead JogScotland, told the Buchanie: “Last year’s event was a bit of a washout as the weather was terrible so we’re hoping that the sun will be shining this year.
“All the monies raised from the Marinathon will go towards next year’s Scottish Week programme so we’re hoping it will be well supported. Those coming along are advised to get down early so to ensure their place.
“A couple of the girls from Peterhead JogScotland will be putting the entrants through their paces in a special warm-up session prior to the event and everyone is welcome to come along and take part in the 3km walk, run or jog,” he added.
Meanwhile, a host of other sporting attractions have been lined up for this year’s gala week.
A junior golf tournament will take place at Peterhead Golf Club on Saturday, July 16, from 9.30am, while sailing taster sessions for youngsters aged eight to 16 will be held on Monday and Tuesday, July 18 and 19, at the marina.
There will be Devostation and Bishop Family Fitness sessions on Friday, July 22, and the ever popular bay swim challenge will be held at the Lido on July 21.
