Peterhead Amateur Boxing Club will host one of the biggest boxing events in the Amateur Boxing Scotland calendar this weekend.
The sell-out event will be held at Peterhead Community Education Centre on Saturday, June 1 and will draw another successful season to a close.
A club spokesman told the Buchanie: “The event sold out months ago with no formal advertisement and will see a 450-strong crowd support our local loons and quines as they compete against strong opposition from all over Scotland.
“This has been our most challenging event to date, and the effort the organisers have put in has been exceptional.
“This year we have taken on the challenge of running our own bar and catering ourselves, which is only manageable through the fantastic support we receive in our community, with the vast amount of volunteers and the outstanding effort they display.
“The response we have received for our raffle has been astonishing, particularly in the current economic climate the local businesses have gave us the best raffle I’ve ever seen with thousands of pounds worth of prizes up for grabs, and we have received a record amount of sponsorship for the night.”
In addition to seeing local boxers do battle with tough opposition in what is sure to be thrilling contests, there will be performances by other local acts, an auction of sought-after memorabilia, and one of the games on the night could see the lucky winner grab £1,000 cash.
There will also be a very special tribute on the night as ‘The Xavier Craig Memorial Shield’ will be presented to the best boxer of the night for the very first time ever in what will be an annual award.
The club runs junior, senior and female only classes at the Peterhead gym in a controlled environment with qualified instructors who have their full PVG with Disclosure Scotland and qualified child protection officers, and are affiliated to Amateur Boxing Scotland Limited .
