Blue Toon athletes run riot to take top spots at Dundee

Seven Blue Toon runners participated in DRAM (Dundee Running Adventure Marathon and half marathon which were held Camperdown Park, Dundee on July 12.

Cameron Robertson from Peterhead, currently running for Aberdeen Metro, came second in his category and seventh overall in a time of 1.22.31.

Ron Gauld, who won the Peterhead and Stonehaven half marathons in the past two weeks netted his third title in a winning time of 1.16.43.

Meanwhile Sandy Hastie of Peterhead Athletics club followed up his success at Stonehaven with his second age group win in a week at Dundee.

And Jennifer Robertson just missed out in a prize coming fourth in her category.

Making a last minute decision to enter their race, club members Maria Willox, Barbara-Ann Needs and Karen Runcie took up the marathon adventure and successfully completed the 26.2 mile challenging route despite hot and blustery conditions.

With some financial assistance from Aberdeenshire Sports Council, Peterhead Athletics Club has just taken receipt of lots of new equipment especially designed to assist juniors develop and continued growth.

The club has been established for just over a year now and is delighted with progress so far . It is on target to have 100 members come the annual general meeting on October 29.

This will be followed by the Peterhead 10k on Sunday, November 8 mwhere it is hoped to attract a field of 225 seniors and to hold junior fun run events.

Entries for seniors will be open online at entry central from July 22. If you wish to get involved in athletics in Peterhead, feel free to go along and meet club members on a Tuesday trackside at Catto Park between 5.30pm and 8 m.
