Longside’s barren spell continues

Longside played Bridge of Don Thistle at Aberdeen on Saturday in the PMAC group First division east.

Muirhead had the first chance for the home side when he took the ball round Dean Allan but the keeper did enough and the forward fired the ball wide.

A Ramsay corner was headed over the bar by Butcher from eight yards.

A Cooper shot from 30 yards was straight at Dean Allan.

Burnett did well on the left when he cut inside but his shot was well saved by Dean Allan.

Butcher and Jamieson combined before Butcher had a shot from the edge of the box but it was straight at Clark.

Ramsay did well for Longside when he broke into the box but he fired his shot narrowly wide.

Bridge of Don took the lead in the 27th minute when the Longside defence couldn’t get the ball clear and Mark Galashan forced the ball over the line. Wallace saved a certain goal when he scrambled the ball clear for a corner, from Burnett’s kick Craik headed the ball wide.

The home side increased their lead in 41 minutes when again the visiting defence struggled to clear their lines and Sam Muirhead scored from close range.

A great run and cross from Ramsay was met by Butcher but he poked the ball wide. J

ust on half time Bridge of Don scored a third when Cody Megginson hit the back of the net.

Five minutes into the second half Longside pulled a goal back when a superb cross from Wallace was met by Shaun Jamieson and he headed home. Minutes later Jamieson got on the end of a Butcher cross but this time he headed the ball wide.

Longside appealed for a penalty when a Jamieson shot appeared to strike the arm of a Bridge of Don defender but the referee waived play which looked the correct decision.

Another mistake from Longside allowed the home side to send Sam Muirhead clear and although Dean Allan got a hand to the shot he couldn’t keep it out.

Longside made a change with Mackie replacing Wallace.

The home side scored a fifth in 89 minutes when Lee Adams collected a pass before slotting it into the net.

The visitors scored a second in the final minute when Jamie Ramsay scored with a fine solo effort.

Longside again contributed to their own downfall with some sloppy play.

They are creating plenty chances but not converting as many as they should.

Longside are away to Fraserburgh United on Saturday in the PMAC Group First Division East with a 2pm kick-off.
