Maud started this game against Hermes with the same side that claimed a great cup result against Tayport.
But poor finishing throughout the game was to cost the home side dearly.
Maud took the lead early on from a Fraser corner which Chalmers rose high to head into the corner of the net.
At the other end Mountford had a snap shot from the edge of the box but was straight at keeper Barbour.
The visitors came close to drawing level when McRae outpaced Robertson on the right and his fierce shot was parried by Barbour and McRae could only strike the rebound into the side netting.
Smith and Wemyss played a neat 1:2 and it ended with Lee Smith firing a shot high over the bar from 12 yards.
Maud doubled their lead on 28 minutes when Ritchie played a ball over the Hermes defence which Duguid latched on to and he had a free run in on goal and he slotted the ball past Sweeny in the away goal.
Bob Morrice had a great chance to make it 3-0 after a through ball on the right which Morrice challenged the outrushing Sweeny but the ball broke to Morrice and his shot from a tight angle came back of the post.
Maud had an even better chance to increase their lead when Morrice played Duguid in on goal but he shot wide with just the keeper to beat.
The second half started badly for the visitors when they had Lee Smith sent off for a horrendous late tackle on Barbour.
Maud should have sewn the points up after a brilliant move down the right involving Fraser, and then Barbour who cut back a ball across goal to Duguid who somehow managed to put the ball over the bar from very close.
On the hour mark, and against the run of play the visitors pulled a goal back when a Graham Murray shot from 25 yards was deflected past Barbour in the home goal.
Maud were forced to make a change on 70 minutes with Kirk replacing the injured Rae for his first action of the season.
Morrice came close to increasing the home side’s lead after he played a neat 1:2 with Duguid but Sweeney in the home goal made an excellent save. Fraser earned a corner on the left and the same player took the corner and the ball was only cleared as far as Simpson on the edge of the box but he dragged his shot wide.
Hermes drew level when a shot came in and Barbour half saved the shot but it rebounded out and Shaw was first to react to poke home.
Maud had one final chance from a Fraser Freekick to the back post where the unmarked Barbour who headed into the side netting.
This was a game that Maud should have had wrapped up the points by half time with the many chances they created.
The second half followed the same way until the away side scored and they came strong towards the end of the match but once more the failure to convert more of the chances being created came back to haunt them only earning then a point rather than three.
Maud’s next fixture is in the PMAC Superleague on Saturday away to New Elgin with a 2pm kick off.
