Hearts triumph over new boys Colony

Hearts went to Inverurie to take on newcomers Colony Park in the final Grill League Cup tie at thw weekend.

They started off well and Stainton was not far off with a shot from outside of the box. They kept up the pressure and Duncan and Geddes combined with Ross saving Duncans effort.

The goal wasn’t long in coming, however, with Ryan Duncan finishing off a good move involving Findlay and Geddes.

Forbes was not having much to do and Smith tried a shot in a rare Colony Park attack.

Hearts made it 2-0 with a great goal from McKenzie Geddes who collected a long ball, beat Brown and rifled a great shot past Ross from outside the box. Hearts were now in complete control with Geddes again coming close, then Ross saved a Stainton shot.

Forbes punched away a dangerous corner as Colony Park looked to come back into the game but Hearts made it 3-0 when Mark Stainton shot home after good work on the right flank from Findlay and Duncan.

Colony Park came out looking for a goal and Clark cleared a cross from Donald. Hearts subbed Donlad with Hart and he worked a one two with Findlay and his final cross was just missed by Duncan.

Hearts should have made it four when a deep Duncan cross found Findlay unmarked and he somehow headed past with the goal wide open.

Colony Park got a goal back when Peden got in behind and his cross was hit home by Pugh.

Hearts came close when good play involving Hart set up Kris Keith but he shot high over from a good position. Hearts took on Ritchie for Findlay and he played a good ball to Hart whose cross was put behind for a corner which was cleared and Colony Park broke and Forbes kept out a cross from Donald but the ball broke to Smith who scored with the final piece of action to make it 3-2.

This was a good first half for Hearts who were in total control, but they took the foot off the pedal in the second and let Colony Park into the game.

That said, they were still worthy winners by creating a lot of chances and should have won by more.

The next game is a Division 1 encounter away to Glentanar (KO 2.30pm).
