Hearts too strong for Longside in local derby

FOOTBALL

Longside had near neighbours Buchanhaven Hearts as visitors in the PMAC group First division east.

The visitors went on the attack straight away and forced a corner, Ritchie’s kick was played back to him and when he fired it back into the middle Dean Allan made a confident save.

In Longside’s first attack, Butcher got the ball on the edge of the box but his dipping shot went over the bar.

The Hearts pressure paid off in 8 minutes when a Zander Davidson corner was headed clear by McIntosh for another corner and from Davidson’s second delivery the unmarked Ritchie Ligertwood rose to head home from ten yards.

MacDonald made a fine save to tip a dangerous cross over the bar, Longside then had two corners but didn’t make any of them count.

Dean Allan was forced to come out of his goal and head the ball clear but only as far as Zander Davidson but his chip shot was off target.

A mistake in the Longside defence gave Dane Ballard the chance to punish them and slip the ball into the net.

Mackie made a fine run on the right for the home side and his shot was well saved by MacDonald but nobody was on hand for the loose ball and the danger was cleared.

Ballard did well to control a high ball and Dean Allan had to punch it clear for a corner which came to nothing.

A Nicol Davidson free kick was met by Butcher but he headed the ball wide.

A Zander Davidson corner was headed goalward by Ballard but Dean Allan tipped it onto the bar and out for another corner, the Longside defence had to scramble the ball clear for another corner before finally getting it clear.

Just before half time Ligertwood had a shot from the edge of the box but it went straight to the keeper.

Buchanhaven scored a third when Zander Davidson punished a mistake in the Longside mistake when he beat Dean Allan with a clinical finish.

Longside started the second half with Jamieson replacing the injured Steele.

Mackie went on a run down the right before cutting the ball inside for Jamieson but the ball was scrambled clear for a corner.

Mackie’s kick was cleared as far as Bain on the edge of the box but he fired the ball over the bar.

A mistake in the home rearguard let Ballard go clear but his shot was saved by Dean Allan.

Buchanhaven dominated the first half and got the early goal to settle into the game and Longside gave away soft goals.

Both teams are on their travels this Saturday in the PMAC Group First division East, Longside are away to Lewis Utd and Hearts are away to Glentanar. K.O 2pm.
