Weekend Welfare action

Clinton Thistle faced Rosehearty Thistle in the North East Scotland Welfare League and this was one way traffic with the home side hitting the goal trail as they went on to win by 22-2.

New Pitsligo and Faithlie met in another league game, both teams knowing they had to win to keep tabs on top-of-the-table Clinton and St Combs.

Pitsligo started the better team and had a few chances to open the scoring in the first 15 minutes with Faithlie struggling with the pace and movement up front.

Faithlie gradually came more in to the game and took the lead on 24 minutes through a brilliant Anderson strike from the edge of the box following good build-up play from Daniel Reid.

On the half hour mark they doubled their lead through an Allan header from a corner.

Stephen pulled a goal back for Pitsligo with an excellent free kick from 30 yards which gave keeper Coyle no chance.

Right at the start of the second half Sanderson increased Faithlie’s lead. Faithlie squandered a few chances to finish the game before Buchan was fouled in the box, Up stepped Allan to give the keeper no chance from the resulting penalty and his second goal of the night on 75 minutes to make it 4-1.

On 86 minutes Anderson rounded off a great night for Faithlie with his second and Faithlie’s fifth to complete the scoring.

Second played third when St Combs faced the in-form Faithlie United and the home side had the first chance when west was played in but Coyle came out to block.

Faithlie took the lead on 20 minutes when a St Combs defender was caught on the ball. G. Clark squared the ball to Sandison who fired in.

A short pass back by Allan left West with another chance but again Coyle came out to save. G Clark cross came close to going in but it came back off the bar.

Gary Clark did get a second for Faithlie followed by a third from Fraser Anderson. The away side got a fourth from the penalty spot converted by Dale Allan which resulted in St Comb’s keeper Gordon being sent off.

Joe Dollman did pull two goals back for the home side but the away side struck twice more with two excellent strikes from 20 and 25 yards from Daniel Reid both strikes flew into the top corner of the net.

Cheers faced Mormond Thistle and this was expected to be a close game and it ended with the home side taking all three points with a narrow win by 3 -2. .

St Drostans faced Rosehearty Thistle in another league game and this ended in a win for the away side by the odd goal in five.

New Deer entertained Bellslea in their league game and it was the away side that led at half time after scoring three first half goals. Bellslea went on to score another tjree before New Deer got a consolation goal. .

The Ship Inn League Cup quarter-final was between Bellslea and Elizabethan Link Up and the home side had a comfortable passage through to the semis against Faithlie United after scoring six goals without reply.
