THERE was a major shock for Blue Toon fans on Tuesday night when Turriff United progressed to the next round of the Morrison Motors (Turriff) Aberdeenshire Shield after beating their hosts 1-0.
United went in at the break in front and managed to hold on to their slender lead and will now play Inverurie Loco Works in the semi-final after the Locos were taken to extra time by Aberdeen University. With the match evenly poised at 1-1 at the break, Locos went in front midway through the second half.
Just after they went in front they had Tommy Wilson ordered off for what looked like serious foul play.
The University took full advantage and equalised to take the match into extra time. Inverurie then again went in front only for the University to come back again and make the score line 3-3.With only two minutes to go and penalty kicks looking favourite Locos regained the lead and saw the match out.
In the remaining match which was the first round tie it finished Buckie Thistle 1, Huntly 2. Huntly will now be at home to Aberdeen in the quarter-final.
