On the night Clinton Thistle were far the better team and man of the match Simon Whyte put in a brilliant performance which taunted the St Combs defence from the start.
The match kicked off in perfect conditions and Clinton went on the attack from the start and broke the deadlock on 14 minutes when a ball through the middle of the St Combs defence was latched on to by Simon Whyte who slotted the ball home.
Three minutes later it was 2-0 when John James Sim was played in on goal and he calmly slid the ball past Gordon in the St Combs goal.
St Combs were finding it hard to create any real chances and went further behind when they gave away a penalty which Simon Whyte converted.
Gordon then made a fine save from a Milne free kick on the edge of the box.
A St Comb’s corner was curled in by Craig Bruce but was cleared at the front post by Fowlie.
Just before half time St Combs had a great chance to get on the score sheet when a Peter Bruce free kick found his striker unmarked inside the box but he failed to get the ball in control and the chance was gone.
Thistle went in 3-0 up at the break.
Into the second half and Clinton added a fourth goal when they were awarded another penalty when a St Combs player handled the ball on the line which resulted them having a player sent off, Whyte’s penalty was well saved by Gordon but rebounded out an Whyte followed up to score.
A fine dazzling run by Tait going past three players but a fine tackle by Aitkinhead resulted in a corner which was crossed to the back post where Buchan should have scored but only found the side netting.
On 62 minutes Simon Whyte got his fourth goal with a neat finish to make it 5-0.
Willie Noble came close with a brilliant lob over Gordon only to see the ball come back off the crossbar.
JJ Sim was played through the middle and with only the keeper to beat, he tried to round the keeper but took a heavy touch and the chance was gone.
With only 2 minutes left Willie Noble added a sixth goal to round off the scoring.
Deejays Nightclub League Mintlaw Fc faced Methlick in a league game and it was Little for the home side that came closest to opening the score but saw his shot come back off the post. Just after the half hour mark the home side won a penalty and Euan Little converted. Into the second half and an Anderson header brought out a good save by Thomson. On 70 mins Euan Little doubled the home side‘s lead with his second of the match. Grant Finnie fired in a bullet from 20 yards to reduce the deficit to one but Bruce Munro got a third for the home side with 7 minutes remaining to earn all 3 points. Both teams ended the match with 10 men after Reekie for Mintlaw and Taylor for Methlick were sent off.
In another league 1 game it was goals galore in the match between Longside Thistle and Bellslea with the away side winning by 6 goals to 3. The away goals were scored by William Calder with 2, his second a cracking volley, Arron Gall with a volley from corner of the box, Jonathon Garden 1, Daryl Allan 2, one which was a fierce strike from 30 yards which found the top corner of the net and for the home side was Neil Buchan, Scot McSeveney and David Fraser.
Faithlie United faced Bellslea knowing only a win would keep their title challenge on course and the match ended with a fine win for the home side by 4 goals to 1. Faithlie United scorers were Andrew Whyte, Dale Allan, Martin Buchan and Matthew Garden.
Soccerworld Scotland League-Peterhead United faced Invercairn and it was the visitors that went in front against the run of play with a goal from Martin Anderson. Two minutes later it was all square after Ewan McLeman scored for the home side. On 23 minutes the home side took the lead with a brilliant shot from 30 yards from Paul Cluiet which ended up in the top corner of the net. On 28 Minutes the away side levelled the game when a cut back by West found Liam Reid unmarked to tap in to an empty net. A miss timed pass back let in Ewan McLeman to round the away keeper to put United in front once more. The home side added a further 2 goals through Kevin Cameron and Ryan Urquhart before Robert Heron reduced the home side lead to 2. The away side pushed forward but stand in keeper Gary Buchan was outstanding in the second half making a hatful of fine saves.
Elizabethan Link Up faced title challengers Ardallie and it was the away side that earned another 3 vital league points after they scored three goals without reply. Goals came from Jamie Ingram with a brace and the other from Jamie McNeil.
New Deer faced Cuminestown in another league game and Town went in front early with a goal from Daryn Bruce but New Deer hit back to score 2 goals in each half to win by 4 goals to 1. New Deer scorers were Mark Raper, Scott Milne, Damie Duncan and Nick Shewan.
Soccerworld league leaders Rosehearty Thistle faced Mormond Thistle in a league match and it was decided by a single goal from Rosehearty’s Moir to move them closer to the league Title.
Ship Inn League Cup Quarter Final Faithlie United had Panasonic as opposition with a place in the Semi Finals up for grabs and it finished with the home side winning by 5 goals to 1. The home scorers were Dale Allan with a hatrick and one a piece from Mark Atkinson and Karl Noble and for the visitors was Duncan Fraser.
In another Quarter Final match Mintlaw FC faced Longside Thistle and the home side hit the goal trail winning by 11 goals to 2. Mintlaw scorers were Shaun Jamieson with a hatrick, braces from Marc McQueen and Stuart Mair and one a piece from Euan Little, Scott Forbes, Paul Finnie and an own goal.
