Solid, workmanlike performance from the Cruden Bay boys

It was PMAC League Division Two business again for the Bay when they visited Whitehills on Saturday.

The Bay went ionto the attack from the start; Tocher put in a good ball to Reid who put in a shot which McKinnon in the home goal pushed round the post. From the corner, taken by Glendinning a Mair header was cleared of the line by Gray and another header Mair from a further corner was blocked by the home defence.

The Bay were having a lot of possession in the early stages by schances were few and Whitehills were limited to sporadic counter attacks.

A good run down the right by C. Buchan was ended with a timely tackle by Law. The pressure eventually paid off for the Bay after fifteen minutes; Sangster was tripped in the box and Mair made no mistake from the spot hammering the ball past McKinnon.

In a Whitehills attack a shot from Gibb was well wide of the target. The Bay then had a chance when a clearance from defence found Glendinning who ran on goalwards; however, McKinnon was quickly off his line to save the Bay player’s shot with an outstretched leg. The Bay continued to press but there still few clear cut chances.

Glendinning was again prominent when he won the ball on the right and made a good run down the wing; however, the final cross was easily collected by keeper, McKinnon. A Tocher cross from the right was cleared off the line by the home defence and a further Glendinning cross was comfortably cleared by the home defence. A chance fell to Glendinning when latched onto a miskick from the home defence, but his effort was well wide.

In a Whitehills counter attack a Thomson shot from just inside the box was well wide of the target. And at the other end Sangster just failed to get on the end of a through ball from Arthur.

A looped shot from Gibb was easily saved by S. Buchan and then a timely interception by Wisely cut out an intended through ball to Thomson. In the dying minutes of the half Cassie shot was also well wide of the mark.

The bay attacked from the restart; following a scramble in the home box a Stainton shot was well over and then Glendinning received a rebound from the Whitehills defence but the player could only put his effort wide.

The home side did try and get back in the game; in one attack S, Buchan punched clear a Gibb effort and then the Bay Keeper and Wisely combined to clear a corner.

The Bay continued to attack; a Sangster effort took a deflection and was headed goalward but McKinnon got down to tip the ball around the post. Stainton was then just wide of the mark with another effort as the Bay continued to press. .Another good run down the left by Glendinning saw his cross blocked by the home defence another run by the same player saw his effort saved by McKinnon.

After sixty five minutes the Bay pressure paid off, when Wisely headed home from a Ramsay corner. Within three minutes the Bay were three up; another good run by Glendiining down the left saw him cut inside and beat keeper McKinnon at his near post to record his first goal for the club.

Buchan was called into action when he had when he turned a low shot from Gibb round the post and then the Bay keeper had to move smartly to save at the feet of Cowie.

The Bay continued to press and a Ramsay run ending with his shot being tipped around the post by Law, who had replaced McKinnon in goal.

The home side managed to pull a goal back after eighty three minutes, when substitute Stuartfound himself unmarked on the edge of the Bay box and put in a great shot which found the top corner of the net giving S. Buchan no chance.

The Bay continued to press and a Tocher through ball found Inglis, but the latter‘s shot was saved by keeper Law.

The Bay were rewarded with a fourth goal with minutes remaining: Inglis made a run down the right and found Whyte on the egde of the box. The Bay striker made no mistake with a great volley that gave the home keeper no chance.

This was another good workman like performance by the Bay who were thoroughly worth their win.
