Buchan Ladies FC continued the second half of their Scottish Women’s Premier League season with a 6-1 home defeat to last season’s runners up Forfar Farmington FC.
Both teams started the match cautiously and it took a while for any rhythm to settle into the game.
After fifteen minutes the pace of striker Hannah Stewart beat the Forfar defence and only an amazing reaction save by Welton prevented the home side going ahead. Buchan would rue this missed chance.
On twenty two minutes an attack down the left saw the Forfar winger slip a neat little cross into the box where it was met at the near post by Caren Webster who had a simple job of slipping it past McQuillan in the home goal.
Four minutes later and the Buchan ladies were two behind. This time Forfar striker Caroline Heron was strong enough to hold off a challenge to clip a beautiful chip over the goalkeeper.
The second half badly needed something to set it alight and it came after sixty minutes. Forfar winger Abbi Grant, quiet up to that point, cut in from the right and fired past the Buchan keeper. The local team were stunned and four minutes later the same player reenacted her goal. She was not finished, cutting in from the right and sidestepping keeper she competed a seven minute hat trick.
Scotland U19s call up Hannah Stewart missed a penalty before Forfar striker Heron scored her second goal of the game. Final score, 6-1 to Forfar Farmington FC.
