Second half goals earn Longside victory

Longside had Turriff United as visitors on Saturday in a friendly.

The Highland league side were quick out of the traps and took the lead in the opening minute when Gauld sent over a teasing cross and Ritchie Ligertwood arrived at the back post to head the ball past Thomson.

Thomson clashed with Campbell going for a high ball, Gauld picked up the loose ball but could only fire it into the side netting. A Lidgertwood free kick from the edge of the box was saved by Thomson.

A fine cross from Fraser was just too far in front of Campbell. Norris sent Duncan clear on the left and he sent over a superb cross but their was no-one to get on the end of it and the danger was cleared.

The home side drew level in 49 minutes when Ryan Duncan fired a stunning 30-yard strike into the net. The same player saw his shot being tipped onto the post in 79 minutes but Mark Stainton followed up to score.

This was a fine performance from Longside with everyone playing a part and quite a few players still to come back into the squad and hopefully they will be ready for this Saturday’s game.

Longside played Fraserburgh another Highland league side last Thursday with the Broch winning by 3-0.

Longside start their season proper on Saturday with a trip to Aberdeen to play the champions Hermes in the Superleague (kick-off 2.30pm).
