Second half errors cost Hearts dear

Buchanhaven Hearts travelled to Bridge of Don Thistle in a Division One East match with the game getting the go-ahead after a pitch inspection.

The game was in the bag for Hearts but poor defending in the second half cost them dearly.

Hearts were first on the attack as they took the lead early on when Thistle keeper Burr dropped the ball and Kris Keith pounced to shoot into the net to put Hearts ahead.

Thistle came back into it and equalised when Black sent the ball across goals and the unmarked Galley scored at the back post.

Hearts’ Ligterwood sent Ballard through but Burr blocked his shot with his legs.

Hearts kept up the pressure and were rewarded with a good goal from Ballard after good passing involving Davidson shot past Burr with ease to put Hearts 2-1 ahead.

Hearts were well on top and Davidson beat two men but shot into the side netting.

Mair then got himself in a good position but his shot was blocked by Craik.

Hearts should have made it 3-1 after half-time when a Davidson corner found Ritchie Ligterwood alone at the back post, but the ball got tangled up between his legs and the chance was gone.

This proved to be costly as Thistle broke and Ryan Donaldson was adjudged to have brought down Danton.

The referee gave a penalty in which Gunn scored to make it 2-2. Hearts made a comeback as they went 3-2 ahead when Donaldson knocked a corner down to Gary Davidson who shot past Burr, but again Thistle fought back to make it 3-3 when Danton scored with a header after a Gunn cross.

Hearts were shocked and it got worse when they didn’t clear the ball and Gunn shot home from the edge of the box to make it 4-3 to the home side.

They lost another goal when the ball wasn’t properly cleared again and Scoular scored from a similar position to make it 5-3.

Hearts still had plenty of chances but Burr kept Thistle in it by saving Ballard’s free kick.

Thistle made it six with a goal from Danton as his cross found the net and Heart’s goalkeeper Fuerst injured his ankle by landing awkwardly.

After a lengthy hold up, Gait took over in goals but Hearts gave themselves too much to do and Thistle took the points.

Buchanhaven Hearts’ next game will be away to Newmachar United 2pm k.o.
