Peterhead punt has bookies worried

Sheran’s men best-backed team in all leagues

BOOKIES are running scared of Peterhead after a huge gamble on the Blue Toon to land the Third Division title.

At the beginning of June, Scottish firm McBookie.com chalked Peterhead up as 10/3 second favourites behind Alloa, but six weeks later and John Sheran’s men are the red-hot 6/4 favourites.

McBookie.com spokesman Paul Petrie said: “We’ve taken more pre-season bets on Peterhead than any other team in Scotland and that includes the Old Firm.

“The catalyst for this massive punt seems to be the signing of striker Rory McAllister from Brechin. The consensus among fans is that he will run riot in the bottom league as he has a proven track record of scoring goals at a higher level.”

“McAllister will be a very short price to be top scorer in the Division and if money talks then Peterhead won’t be in the basement for too long.”
