Pensioners turn on the style against Hatton

PETERHEAD Pensioners had Hatton as opponents in the Buchan Welfare League at the weekend, and it was the away side that started the better and took the lead with a rocket of a shot from Cowie which flew past the diving Moir in the home goal.

The home side drew level with a bit of good fortune when a Cameron cross hit David Geddes who was on the ground at the time and the ball struck his foot and into the net.

The second half was controlled by the home side and eventually all the goals came. John Ross made it 2-1 with great strike. This was followed by an own goal by Buchan. Kenny Watson made it 4-1 from a penalty and John Ross completed the scoring by firing his second and the home team’s fifth.

Mambos faced Cuminestown for the second time in four days and they reversed the score from Last Thursday to win by 3-1.

They led at half time with two goals from Richard Kirk and scored another in the second half by Sean Smith. They also hit the woodwork three times. Replying for the home side was Barry Shepard.

Methlick were up against Longside Thistle and it was even at one all for a while but Longside took control of the game and went on to score four more goals which came from Paul Ironside with a brace and one each from Calum Davidson, Neil Begley and David Fraser.

The Methlick Cup quarter-final was between Longside and Cuminestown.

The first chance of the game fell to Alexander whose shot was saved by Stephen and again the same player was in on goal on the left of the box and unleashed a shot which came back off the underside of the bar and then cleared.

Clarke Morrison wasted another chance when he lobbed the keeper but wide of the goals. Stephen then made another two great stops from mark Robertson from close range.

Longside’s first chance came from a free kick by Ironside which Jamieson saved. Cuminestown took the lead with a strike by Mark Robertson and Chris Strachan doubled their lead when he beat two players and fired low into the net.

Robert McSeveney pulled back one goal with a penalty. Mark Robertson sealed the win with a goal in 85 minutes.

Phd Pensioners faced an under strength Methlick team in the league and the home side continued their unbeaten run in the league with a comfortable 9-1 win. John Ross hit four with braces from Kenny Watson and Billy McNeil and one from Kevin Norris and for Methlick was Ben Watt.
