Maud and East End settle for share of spoils

Maud hosted East End in the PMAC Group Superleague on Saturday.

But the home side were left to rue missed chances as the sides settled for a 1-1 draw.

The visitors shaded the first half and could have gone in at half time ahead. Maud had the better in the second half but, the missed chances came back to haunt them again and only pick up a point.

The matched kicked off in perfect conditions and Fraser did well on the right and fizzed a cross along the six yard bow but there were no takers.

A clash of players left Laing on the ground and he had to be replaced by McQuell.

Maud had a let off when Simpson misjudged the ball and it left Fraser with a chance to score but Barbour came off his line to block the shot.

On 25 minutes Hale did well on the left going past the defender but fired straight at the keeper who held comfortably. The visitors had a great chance to take the lead when they were awarded a freekick on the edge of the Maud box which Yeats lined up to strike but played a ball down the side of the wall to Fraser who fired high over the bar. Just on half-time S. Robertson played a great ball to Hodge but the striker failed to control the ball and the chance was gone.

Reid was quick to test Barbour from the edge of the box but the home keeper saved easily. The same played hit another shot from distance which Barbour parried wide of the goal for a corner which was swung in and Fraser rose with Barbour and the keeper did enough to see the ball go over the bar.

The home side took the lead on the hour mark when Barbour sent a long ball down the park which Rae headed on and Duguid latched onto and lift over the advancing keeper. In the last minute the away side were awarded a penalty when Simpson made a rash tackle. Jonathan Reid netting to earn the visitors a point.
