Longside lose to league leaders

Longside had league leaders Colony Park as visitors on Saturday in a league game.

In the opening minute Mackie headed the ball into the path of

Butcher, he controlled it before firing his shot straight at Colony keeper Stewart.

The home side survived a goalmouth scramble when the ball came back off the post before Gatt did well to dive on top of the ball and clear the danger.

At the other end Stewart made a brilliant save to turn away a shot from Fraser Davidson.

Longside opened the scoring in 12 minutes when Butcher fired a low shot off the post and into the net.

The lead lasted only two minutes when the home defence couldn’t get the ball clear and Strachan played it into the path of Ness and he had the simple task of scoring from close range.

Slack play from the Longside defence allowed Gordon a chance but Gatt raced from his goal to clear the danger. Ness tried a chip shot from outside the box but Gatt managed to save at the expense of a corner, from the resultant kick Calum Davidson headed off the line.

A McIntosh cross found Butcher at the far post but his header was cleared off the line. The visitors took the lead in 43 minutes when Roddie ran clear before drilling a low shot into the corner of the net.

Longside had a great chance to level matters before half time when Fraser Davidson was sent clear but his shot was saved with his legs by Stewart.

The home side had another good chance six minutes into the second half when a Taylor free kick was missed by Fraser Davidson and Butcher with Stewart making a fine save in the end but the ball fell for Bain but he sent hi shot into the side netting.

Fraser Davidson looked to be away in the clear but was fouled by Ross who received a yellow card for the challenge.

Colony scored a third in 59 minutes when they were allowed too much time to get the ball in from the their right hand side Roddie was on hand to sweep the ball home.

Longside made a change in 63 minutes with Usher replacing Davidson.

Norris tried a shot from 30 yards minutes later but his effort went over the bar. Colony forced three corners in quick succession and from the third, Maitland got the last touch to head the ball home.

The home side were awarded a corner and from Mackie’s kick the ball was cleared upfield where Longside were caught all at sea, Roddie saw his
first shot saved by Gatt but he followed up to notch his third.

In the 87th minute Gatt made another fine save to deny Strachan.
