LONGSIDE FC have been training for more than four weeks in preparation for the coming season under the watchful eyes of Natty Porter and Billy Smith.
From last season they have lost Ryan Cowie and Stuart Taylor to Highland League club Turriff United and Morven Wood and John Ross who are currently playing in the Fraserburgh Welfare League.
New faces introduced are Kevin Adams on loan from Deveronvale, Ryan Donaldson, Kevin Park and Adam Ritchie from Buchanhaven Hearts. Calum Davidson has also rejoined the club from Longside Thistle.
The team has made a really encouraging start to the season with a 2-0 win at Forfar West End in the annual challenge match for the TS Davidson Trophy with Calum Davidson and Ben Danton getting their names on the scoresheet.
Last Saturday they played a strong Peterhead under 19s side which included P.A.Bruce, Lewis Davidson and Paul Young. The home side came out on top with a 2-1 victory.
Ryan Donaldson and Paul Campbell scored to give Longside a two goal lead at half-time. Michael Thomson pulled off a string of superb saves as Peterhead applied pressure in the second half and a PA Bruce header in the closing minutes was their only counter.
The season starts proper tonight (Tuesday), with a home tie against Deveronside in the Grill League Cup (kick-off 7.15pm) and in the same competition on Saturday away to Fraserburgh United (kick-off 2.30pm).
