Longside fire in three but still fall short of victory

Longside must be wondering what they have to do to earn a vital three points in the PMAC Superleague this season.

On Saturday they fired in three past East End, only for the visitors to reply with five.

It was another bad day at the office for Longside who are still missing too many chances and at the back they are conceding far too many.

The omens were bad when, in the third minute, the visitors took the lead when Reid cut inside and his cross was saved by Thomson but the ball fell for Mark Hutching and he slotted it into the net.

The home side responded when Wallace did well on the right before finding Butcher and his shot was well saved by Henderson.

Steven Whyte put his side back on level terms in the 15th minute when he chipped the ball over Henderson and into the net.

And six minutes later they took the lead when a Butcher cross was headed past Henderson by Nicol Davidson.

At the other end a Reid free kick was parried by Thomson and Whyte cleared for a corner, Hutching played a short corner to Jordan Reid and he took a couple of strides before unleashing a powerful strike into the top corner of the net.

Dangerman Hutching gave East End the lead again when he slipped the ball past Thomson from a suspisiously offside position.

They added a fourth five minutes into the second half when Buchan and Cameron had a mix up in the Longside defence and Hutching dispatched the loose ball past Thomson.

A dangerous free kick from Whyte was cleared for a corner, Butcher kick was cleared.

Longside made a change just after the hour mark when Burr replaced Gordon. The home side had to make another change minutes later when Ferris came on for the injured Wallace.

With ten minutes remaing Sean Butcher scored with a stunning free kick from 30 yards.

The visitors went up the park and won a penalty when Thomson felled Hutching in the box, the striker got up but his kick hit the post and bounced to safety.

East End put the result beyond doubt when Ross Durno netted from close range.

This Saturday Longside travel to play Stonehaven in PMAC Group Superleague (ko 2pm).
