Hearts out of Scottish Cup

HEARTS were given a hard lesson in clinical finishing and quality goals on Saturday as they were ousted form the Scottish Junior Cup in the third round.

Johnstone Burgh fired seven past the Buchnahaven boys with only one in reply.

Hearts did create a lot of good chances but found keeper Wilson in top form and a terrible pitch which was surely very close to being unplayable.

Hearts travelled to take on Johnstone Burgh in the Scottish Cup third round, with the early exchanges being fairly even.

Bennett pulled off a good save from Ramsay to keep Hearts level. Hearts forced a corner and Ritchie’s kick was headed just over by Brown who beat Wilson to the ball.

The Peterhead side weas holding out, but Johnstone Burgh took the lead when they were awarded a soft free kick outside the box and Stuart curled the ball home to put the home side ahead after 23 minutes.

It soon got worse for Hearts when a cross was cleared by Cunningham but it was volleyed home in style by McIntyre to make it 2-0.

Wilson kept Burgh from losing a goal with a great save from Ballard after good play from McLeod, Hearts then conceded another when McIntyre shot home to make it 3-0. Then Leslie didn’t clear the ball and McIntyre pounced again to shoot passed Bennett to give Burgh a 4-0 at half time.

Hearts came out in the second half looking determined to get back into the game and Wilson pulled off another good save from Watson then he again denied Ballard with another block preventing the Hearts striker from scoring.

Buchanhaven pressure eventually paid off and they pulled one back when a Ritchie through ball saw Ballard finally beat Wilson and shot into an empty net. Brown almost made it 4-2 when he headed another Ritchie corner just over the bar.

Hearts made a few substitutions hoping to get another goal back with ten minutes left and tired legs on a very heavy pitch were beginning to show.

Johnstone Burgh added three late goals to make it look a harsh scoreline for Hearts with the goals coming from McIntyre, McGinley and Chalmers.

Next game is away to Burghead Thistle in a G.A. Engineering Cup encounter on Saturday with a kick off time of 1.30pm.
