Hearts keep their patience to make it through to the next round

Buchanhaven Hearts had Newmachar United as visitors in a Morrison Trophy first round tie at a breezy Raemoss Park on Saturday.

Hearts kicked-off with the wind behind them and took the game to United straight away and Clark got downthe left and his cross found no takers in the six-yard box.

Hearts had to sub Kevin Park with Kevin Norris after he took a knock early on.

United were defending well with Hearts finding it hard to break them down.

The home side should have taken the lead when a good move found Jordan Clark break into the box and his cutback was sent over the bar by the incoming Ritchie.

Hearts’ Ritche Ligertwood just shot wide off McKenzie’s right hand post after the ball broke to him in the box.

Hearts wasted another opportunity when Norris robbed a Newmachar defender on the edge of the box, ran on and with McKenszie to beat passed the ball but it went behind Ballard who seemed certain to score.

Hearts kept up the pressure but couldn’t find the net as the first half drew to a close.

Newmachar had the wind behind them in the second half but it was Hearts who were still in control, although they were finding it hard to break down the defence.

Hearts subbed Davidson for Sime. A Walker free kick was just missed at the back post by Simpson.

Then a knockdown fell to Ross Walker but he couldn’t get his shot on target.

Hearts eventualy made the breakthrough they had been looking for when a Davidson free kick was knocked down by Kris Keith to Kevin Norris who shot home from six yards to put Hearts 1-0 ahead.

They kept up the pressure and Ballard came close but McKenzie saved.

Hearts subbed Cameron for Walker.

Newmachar won a free kick and Mearns’ effort saw McDonald save with ease.

Hearts scored a second when Ryan Cameron ran from his own half and calmly shot past McKenzie to put Hearts 2-0 up.

This was a game whichHearts controlled and found United a hard team to break down.

But they showed patience and got their reward with a place in the next round.

Hearts next game is on Friday, February 13, when they will be away to Longside in the League, with a 7.45pm kick-off.
