AFTER a disappointing display in midweek, Hearts hoped to bounce back when Islavale were visitors to Raemoss Park in a Grill League Cup tie.
Hearts made several changes with trialists Forbes and Streckis given a start. Islavale started well and Forbes had to look lively when a cross from Stables was dangerous.
A Glendinning diagonal ball saw Hart put a cross into the area but Stewart cleared before Duncan could get to the ball. Hearts missed a chance when Hart again put the ball in the box and Mark Stainton could not get his shot on target and it went wide.
A long punt from Stewart saw Forbes collide with Shand in the box and the referee awarded a penalty. Collins stepped up and shot home to put Islavale 1-0 up.
Islavale doubled their lead when a corner was missed by the Hearts defence and Shand scored with a header to make it 2-0. Hearts tried to get back into the match and Moir saved well from Duncan’s shot from 18 yards.
Hearts subbed Streckis with Scott McLeod at the start of the half and he made an immediate impact when he hit the post with a volley after a Duncan lay-off. Hearts were forcing the pace and Duncan made Moir save, then Winton headed off the line. Hearts then subbed Ritchie for Donald and Morgan for Stainton. Hearts were unlucky again when Findlay hit the post with a shot from inside the box.
A free kick was awarded for handball outside the Islavale box and Morgan’s free kick hit the bar with Moir well beaten. It was all Hearts towards the end but they could not fid a way through to goal.
A good display in the second period in which Hearts totally dominated but bad luck in front of goal summed up their day when the damage was done in the first half.
Hearts would like to thank Alan Harris of Choice Carpets who sponsored the match and they picked Jordan Abolghassem as their Man of the Match. The next game away to Whitehills on tonight (Tuesday), with a 7.15pm kick-off.
HEARTS: Forbes, Donald, Glendinning, Clark, Abolghassem, Powell, Hart, Findlay, Duncan, Streckis, Stainton. Subs: McLean, Ritchie, Morgan, Sime, Pirie, Buchan.
