Gordon Leask Cup serves up host of goals

Faithlie United faced ClintonThistle for a place in the final of the Gordon Leask Memorial Cup semi-final, and it was the away side who booked their place after an impressive 4-1 win.

The winning goals came from Jamie Martin, Darren Barbour, Gilbert Patterson Jnr and David Slater and replying for the home side was Jonathan Reid.

The other semi-final was between St Comb and Bellslea and it was a comfortable passage to the final for Bellslea scoring seven without reply.

The first came from a brilliant volley just on the edge of the box from Liam Rollo, Defender Gary Summers added a second on 29 minutes, before Daryl Allan scored a third in the first half. The second half followed the same way with four more goals from Jonathan Garden, Liam Rollo with another terrific finish, Jamie Buchan and Fraser Watt.

In the Deejays Nightclub League, Mormond Thistle faced St Combs and it ended in a 6-2 win for the away side.

The winning goals came from Neil Taylor with a brace and one each from David Buchan, John Smith, Colin Hendry and 15 year-old Gavin Bruce and for the home side were Charles Knight and B. Robertson. St Combs striker had to be taken to hospital with a broken collarbone.

Bellslea faced rivals Clinton Thistle in a league game and the home side went in front When Fraser Watt displaced Fowlie and dispatched the ball into the net. It was all square after a short back pass let in Whyte who rounded McRobb and fire home. The visitors then went ahead from a corner Stuart Fowlie reacted first to prod home. On 25 minutes it was all square again from a corner Chris Stewart deflected the ball past his own keeper.

Gall had a great chance for the home side when he held off his marker and into the box but Summers made a great block.

Daniel Smith of Clinton had the ball in the net but it was ruled offside then at the other end Watt used hi pace on the right and his cutback was fired into the net by Garden to give the home side the lead going into half time.

On the hour mark Clinton were awarded a penalty which Simon Whyte took and McRobb got a hand to it but couldn’t prevent the ball hitting the net leaving the match all square again. Just at the end Rollo and Allan came close for Bellslea.

Rosehearty Thistle entertained Faithlie United in another league game and it was another bad day for the home side as Faithlie hit ten goals past them without reply. Striker Andrew Whyte netted five times, braces from Daniel Reid and Fraser Anderson and one from Martin Anderson.

In the first round of the Brucklay Cup Invercairn entertained New Deer and the home side won by the odd goal in five. Scorers were MJ Patterson, Charles West and Jake west and replying for the visitors was Kyle Tait and Scott Milne.

In another first round tie Mintlaw FC faced Elizabethan Link Up and at half time it was all square with Jamie park and Marc McQueen scoring for the home side and John MacKinnon scoring a brace for the visitors. Clint Cassie put the away team ahead and then John MacKinnon completed his hatrick before young Jordan Third finished to complete the scoring.
