Football: Welfare league and cup action round up

In the Deejays Nightclub League, Faithlie United faced Clinton Thistle at the weekend and the home side had the better of the first half and took the lead on 29 minutes with a goal from Nathan Sandison.

Ten minutes later they doubled that lead with a fierce shot from Daniel Reid which flew past the keeper.

In the second half Roy Noble had two great chances to extend the lead but on both occasions he blasted over.

With 72 minutes gone a mistake by Stuart in the away goal left Dale Allan an easy header to make it 3-0.

Five minutes later a Porter shot for Clinton was deflected past Reid to make it a comfortable win for Faithlie.

In another league encounter, Panasonic faced Mintlaw FC and this was always going to be a close one.

This was proved right after the away side won by the odd goal in five.

Longside Thistle faced Methlick and in a high-scoring game, with the away side picking up their first league points this season with a 4-3 win.

St Combs faced Bellslea, andSt Combs went in front on 15 minutes when they were awarded a penalty which was converted by Nicky Tait.

On 33minutes a quick break by Bellslea and Rollo rounded the home keeper and he fired into the net to level the game.

The St Comb’s keeper had a couple of fine saves to stop Bellslea going ahead.

Rollo gave the away side the lead in the second half before a neat move by St Combs left Tait to level the game.

The away side were then reduced to ten men after Rollo was sent off.

The home side got the winner after some great work by Tait whose shot was parried and it fell to Smith who found the bottom corner of the net to win the game.

Balmoor entertained New Pitsligo and the home side were dealt a blow when just five minutes into the game Michael Waddell was sent off for a hand ball in the box.

Raymond Taylor subsequently converted the penalty and later doubled the away side lead.

Balmoor hit back in the second half with a goal from AJ Buchan but couldn’t find another.

However, it was a creditable performance playing with ten men for 85 minutes of the game.

In the SoccerWorld Scotland League 2, Ardallie were hosts to Cuminestown in a and it was the home side that got their seventh league win in a row after they won by 7-3.

Buchanhaven FC faced Invercairn but it ended with a fine win for the visitors by 7-1.

Cuminestown played host to league leaders Rosehearty Thistle FC and it ended all square with both sides netting once each.

The visitors ended the match with ten men after McPherson was red-carded.

New Deer faced rival title contenders Ardallie and the home side took the lead early on when Willie Robbie scored.

Goal of the game was number two when an attacking move by New Deer ended with a fantastic strike from 25 yards by Damie Duncan found the roof of the net.

In the second half Nick Shewan made it 3-0 then he added a fourth. Damie Duncan and Barry Crighton completed the scoring to win 6-0.

In the Soccerworld Cup quarter-final Faithlie United faced Panasonic and it was the home side that took the lead with a fine lob by Andrew Whyte.

They added a second from Martin Buchan before Andrew Whyte added his second and Faithlie’s third.

Panasonic pulled one back before half time with a converted penalty by Alan Brown. Both sides had chances in the second half before Faithlie’s Lee Lawrence added a fourth right at the end to book their place in the semis.

The other quarter-final was between Bellslea and Longside Thistle and it was a close affair and was decided by a single goal from the home side to book their place in the semi-final.

In the Brucklay Cup semi-final, ElizabethanLink Up faced Rosehearty Thistle and once more the away side proved they are the team to beat this season after they went on to score three goals without reply. .

The other semi was between Mormond Thistle and Peterhead United and it was the home side that went through to the final after they won by 6-2.
