Struggling Longside suffered yet another bad defeat on Saturday - this time at the hands of visitors Deveronside.
Once again two goals in as many minutes knocked the stuffing from them.
Having again failed to score - and with just 12 goals in 18 league games to their name- it’s one of the reasons why they are at the wrong end of the table. The home side were awarded a free kick from the first attack, Walker’s kick was blocked by the defensive wall before being cleared.
The visitors responded also with a free kick which eventually fell for Flett but his shot was deflected for a corner which came to nothing.
Davidson raced clear on the right before finding Philip in the middle, he looked set to score but Whyte got back to make a superb block. A Ramsay corner was cleared as far as Duncan but his shot was deflected for another corner which the Banff side managed to clear.
Wayne Murdo had a great chance from a corner but his shot was well saved by Thomson. At the other end Walker had a half chance after good work from Butcher but he tugged his shot wide. Flett had a good chance from a Davidson cross but he headed the ball wide.
Davidson should have opened the scoring for Deveronside when he was left all on his own but he drove his shot wide. A headed flick from Butcher put Duncan clear and his shot was saved by Tait. Thomson made a fine save to deny Philip. Butcher got on the end of a Whyte cross but he headed the ball over the bar.
Into the second half and a long clearance from Thomson was picked up by Butcher but his cross was saved by Tait at full stretch.
Deveronside did have the ball in the net through Davidson but the assistant had his flag up for offside. Duncan picked up the ball on the edge of the box for Longside but his shot was saved by Tait.
The visitors opened the scoring in 52 minutes when Stuart Flett caught Thomson off his line scoring from 45 yards. Two minutes later Scott Davidson dispossessed Ramsay on the halfway line before weaving his way into the box and chipping the ball over the advancing Thomson.
A Thomson corner was met by McLeay but his shot was cleared off the line by Whyte. Longside made a double change when Butcher and Ramsay made way for Burr and Wallace. Wallace was soon in the action when he got to the byeline before cutting the ball back but it was scrambled clear. McLeay fired the ball into the side netting but Thomson had it covered.
Longside’s day got worse in 82 minutes when Marchi was shown a red card for an off the ball incident.
