A crazy five-minute spell was Longside’s undoingagainst Ellon United on Saturday.

Losing Jason Bain to injury didn’t help the struggling Davidson Park side either.

They travelled to take on Ellon in the PMAC group Superleague only to find the hosts in fine form and making the perfect start when they opened the scoring in the first minute.

A Macauley shot came back off the post and Callum Tremaine tapped home the rebound.

Minutes later Tremaine could have doubled the lead when he was sent clear, but Leiper was quick off his line to narrow the angle but he pulled his shot wide.

Tait did have the ball in the net but the assistant had his flag up for offside. A Gordon corner was cleared as far as Weir and he got the ball back into the danger area but Steer was there to make the save.

A long throw caught out the Longside defence and McLeod was first to the ball and chip it over Leiper but the visitors defence scrambled it clear.

Longside appealed for a penalty when Butcher was felled in the box but the referee waived play on.

The visitors had a good chance when Steer dropped a Tait cross under pressure from Butcher but Carr fired the ball over the top.

An Allsop free kick was fisted clear by Leiper.

Gordon tried a shot from 35 yards at the start of the second half but his effort went well wide. Davidson found Tait at the far post with a fine cross but he blasted the ball over the bar from a good position.

Gordon then ran onto a Tait pass but the Ellon defence stood firm.

Longside lost the services of Bain when he limped off injured to be replaced by Burr. The home side doubled their advantage in 65 minutes when Erskine played the ball through for Tremaine to fire past a helpless Leiper.

A minute later they scored again when Leonard Johnson scored with a clever chip.

Ellon scored a fourth in 69 minutes when Tremaine completed his hat-trick.

Longside did pull a goal back in 75 minutes when Butcher headed a Daniel cross across goal for Ryan Gordon to head home. Leiper made a superb save to turn away a Lawson header.

This Saturday Longside play their final game of the season at home to Maud in the PMAC Group Superleague (ko:2pm).
