Peterhead Boys Club Colts Under 14’s have just returned from the Copa Cataluyna 2012, a week-long international youth football tournament which was held recently at Blanes (Tordera), near Barcelona in Spain.
The boys had an impressive tournament which saw them compete well against a high standard of European teams.
They finished runners-up in the preliminary group stages, which saw them progress to the quarter-finals, where they were narrowly beaten with a late goal by the eventual tournament winners Kungsladugårds BK from Sweden.
The team challenged well in every game winning the majority and with a bit more luck the Colts could well have gone all the way to the final as it was that close for the boys.
The Copa Cataluyna 2012 international youth tournament is an experience that the boys will never forget and there has been more than two years of extensive fundraising for this once-in-a-lifetime trip which saw the team raise thousands of pounds to allow them to go over to Barcelona
While there the boys visited the famous Nou Camp stadium, home of Barcelona FC, and had a day’s sightseeing in Barcelona.
The group of 50, which included players, coaches, parents and family members, boarded the plane at Aberdeen for this memorable trip and a great time was had by all.
Credit was paid to the boys who were playing their games in over 30 degrees heat, but coped fantastically well.
The club says it could not have raised the funds required for this trip without the generosity and support of local companies and the various fundraising events.
Special thanks were expressed to all the boys who were a credit to the team and town in representing Peterhead Boys Club impeccably throughout.
Thanks were also given to h all the parents for their excellent support and for making it a truly memorable experience, for all the laughs and for creating such unforgettable memories that will stay with the club forever.
