Johnston then tempted Stewart with a cross but was just a little too far forward.

The game was fairly even with both sides keen to get forward but the defences handling the threats but 16 minutes in Forfar opened the scoring with a Heron pass clearly offside pass into Godfrey who netted home.

Five minutes later Forfar got their second from a onto a pass forward pass which Heron latched on to and finished from close range.

Another pass from the right wing again was goalbound but Buchan keeper Flaherty pulled off the first of a number of great saves to keep the visitors in the game.

Buchan defended for a spell then attacked with a half chance, Stewart just short of finishing a Johnston pass.

Even at this early stage of the game and with a two goal lead it was disappointing to see Forfar indulge in every time wasting tactic available and some niggly tackles .

Forfar’s Abbi Grant was booked for reacting to a tackle from Brown who was then carded for retaliating before referee Pirie awarded Buchan the free kick.

Forfar had the first chance in the second half - a cross come shot held by Flaherty and then a corner cleared.

For Buchan, Johnston replied with a cross at the other end which went just over the bar and Reid had a shot blocked by McDonald.

Flaherty was proving the star of the show stopping a clear one on one chance then pulling off a succession of fine saves as the Angus side continued to test her.

Buchan did well to scramble away a corner and Forfar seemed to be gaining confidence from the two-goal lead, stringing passes around in the midfield while Buchan were more keen to get the ball forward quickly to get a goal back.

Forfar pushed again with the ‘Quines’ unable to get the ball away from their end of the pitch and again Flaherty managing to push a shot onto the post to be cleared by Urquhart.

Buchan replied, Reid lofting a ball over the home defence, Johnston reached it first but could only toe it wide then a chance for Stewart but Forfar keeper Welton was quick to close the danger down.

Forfar were now in control, first to every ball and had Buchan pinned in their own half for a spell before managing to break forward.

A free kick from Reid was palmed upwards by the keeper and Stewart put her under pressure before she finally collected.

Buchan were chasing their tails a bit, unable to find their own players with passes then having to work hard to regain possession.

Just minutes from the end the home side’s pressure finally paid off, a pass in from the Bruce, substitute Gallacher received and amid offside claims fired low to make it 3-0.
