Hearts had Cruden Bay visitors for this weekend’s Division 1 East match.

The Bay opened the scoring in the third minute when a corner was missed by everyone and the ball hit Kevin Norris and trundled into the net.

It was a disappointing goal to lose early on and Hearts should have drawn level when Michael Bruce headed wide from a good position after a Walker free kick.

Ballard then turned Arthur but his shot did not trouble Robertson in the Cruden Bay goal.

Cruden Bay doubled their advantage with a breakaway goal.

Hearts were caught square and Cowe ran through to lob the ball past Gatt.

Hearts then pressed hard to get back into the game but could not break down the Bay defence before half time and the away team went in at the break with a 2-0 advantage.

The second half saw Hearts start on top.

Mair worked hard down the left but Ross thwarted him with a good block.

Hearts’ Ballard almost linked up with Walker but again the home side were stopped by good defending.

Cruden Bay broke and Gatt was forced to make a good save when Glendinning was put through.

Hearts continued to press and Bruce had a chance but lobbed the ball over the bar.

Hearts substituted Park for Donaldson and he immediately put in a cross which was again cleared by the Cruden Bay defence.

Time was running out for Hearts to get something from the match and, although they huffed and puffed until the end, the home side were unable to break down the Bay defence.

It was a poor performance from Hearts who simply did not have the guile to penetrate Cruden Bay.

Buchanhaven Hearts have no game next week but return to Cruden Bay a week on Saturday. KO 2pm.
