CRUDEN Bay started season 2012/13 with a friendly against Dundee Junior side Downfield at Watson Park on Saturday.
Play was pretty even during the first quarter, but the Bay managed a shot on target from Inglis who cut in from the left during a Bay attack.
Gatt, in the Bay goal was called into action when he saved with his feet from Johnson as Downfield applied a bit of pressure. The visitors then had another chance from a Leahy free kick on the left, but Tennant headed wide.
The Bay were under a bit of pressure from the visitors and had a lucky escape, when Tennant hit Gatt’ s left hand post, the ball eventually being cleared for a corner.
Park put a shot wide from outside the box and Inglis just failed to connect with a through ball from Whyte. Abolghassem won the ball on the right and elected to shoot when Whyte was better positioned ibn front of goal and the ball was easily collected by Thain.
This stung Downfield into attack and the replied with a goal from Johnson who slotted the ball home from close range after 33 minutes.
Substitute Bremner tested McKessick, who had replaced Gatt, in the home goal at half time with a shot which the Bay keeper tipped around the post. Tennant collected the ball on the halfway line and ran at the home defence but his finally effort went tamely to McKessick. Forbes then headed a Ross corner well wide of the target.
The Bay’s persistence paid off after 73 minutes, when Whyte saw his first attempt at goal blocked by Thain; the Bay attacker moved quickly though to put the ball past the grounded Downfield keeper into the net.
A Leslie free kick was then headed in keeper Thain’s hands by Sime.Although the Bay tried to get a winner, there were no further goals.
The Bay continue their warm-up with another friendly on Wednesday when they entertain a Fraseburgh XI at Watson Park with a 7.30pm kick-off.
