Chess club regains form

PETERHEAD Chess Club regained their form with an impressive 3-1 victory over the Bon Accord Knights in the North East Scotland Chess League recently.

After a crushing 7-1 defeat in a recent allegro match against the All-Stars, the home side showed no signs of frail nerves with strong performances from David Neil, Chris Rose and Kevin Pert leading the way with wins against highly graded Aberdonians.

David Neil’s game was one for the purists with a highly unusual bishop and knight endgame which rarely gets played and is certainly beyond most casual practitioners. However David rose to the challenge and successfully ended with game with a mixture of patience, knowledge and concentration.

The Buchan side now look to build on this result with a tricky home tie against the Bishops then an allegro match in Aberdeen in February.

The chess club continues to meet every Wednesday from 7pm in the Albert Hotel, Queen Street, Peterhead, with new players welcome.
