A former Mintlaw Academy pupil is embarking on the journey of a lifetime as she heads to Zambia.

Zoe Fraser, who is currently a student at Queen Margaret University, is travelling to Lusaka with Challenges Worldwide after securing a place as a 2016 Saltire Scholar with the Saltire Foundation.

Zoe secured a place with Challenges Worldwide on their development programme which operates in Uganda, Zambia and Ghana.

She is currently trying to raise the £1,500 required for the trip and is looking for sponsors.

“I will be carrying out various fundraising activities prior to my departure and folk can keep track of how I get on via my JustGiving page,” said Zoe.

“Any contribution made will make a real difference to the lives of people in developing countries.

“Nobody wants to rely on charity or aid and a secure income is the first step to ending the cycle of poverty.”

During her three-and-a-half month placement, Zoe will be working within a small to medium-sized enterprise, alongside an in-country volunteer and together they will conduct an indepth analysis of the business, helping it to grow and prosper within the local community.

Challenges Worldwide is part of the International Citizen Service (ICS) which brings young people together to fight poverty and make a difference where it is needed most.

Any donations to help support the pgoramme would be greatly appreciated by both Challenges Worldwide and Zoe.

The money raised will go towards supporting the work done by Challenges and its ICS partner organisations, enabling ICS to continue sending volunteers to the developing world to make a lasting difference with disadvantaged commmunities.
