CONGRATULATIONS were given to Cpl Shaun Forbes of 1295 (Peterhead) Squadron who recently came first in the Junior Section of The Aberdeenshire Area Royal British Legion Banner Drill Competition that was held at Keith RBL.

All of the participants worked hard on their technique for the competition, but Shaun won on the day.

Cdt Stefan Caswell, also from 1295 (Peterhead) Squadron, was awarded second place and Cpl Jack Murdoch from 1296 (Turriff) Squadron came third.

Cdt Dale Wood, Cdt Dovile Bartkute and Flight Sergeant Andrew Buchan from Peterhead also entered the competition.

Cpl Forbes will now take part in the national finals in Perth in July. Massive thanks were expressed to John Courtley who coached all of the Cadets who entered the competition in RBL Banner Drill. Without his continued support at the Squadron none of the cadets would have reached the standard necessary to enter the competition.

Cpl Forbes has also qualified to enter The Nijmegen Marches that will take place in Holland in July. Shaun attend the gruelling qualifying round at Garelochhead and was delighted when he was told he will be part of the team representing the NE Scotland Wing of the Air Cadet Organisation.

Congratulations also go to Cdt Laurence Pye, Cdt Ross Maclean and Cdt Liam Cowie who were part of the 1295 (Peterhead) Squadron team who attended the Inter Wing Athletics held at the Chris Anderson Stadium in Aberdeen.

Cdt Pye received gold medals for High Jump and Long Jump in class A with Cdt Maclean receiving silver for High Jump class A. Cdt Cowie received silver for High Jump class B.

Well done to all of the cadets who participated from the Squadron.

Cadets from the Squadron have also been involved in the latest round of community involvement in Cruden Bay.

They did an evening litter pick at Errollston Woods collecting many bags of rubbish in what turned out to be a horrendous evening of constant rain.

They had to finish earlier than planned due to the weather but will be back over the next couple of months to continue with this task.

The Squadron has also attended the Longside War Graves Parade which is the first Parade of the year.

Also present were Royal British Legion members and members of the Royal Air Forces Association. Cdt Dovile Bartkute, Cdt Alannah Martin and Cdt Morgan Davidson laid crosses for the airmen buried at Longside Cemetary.

Cpl Forbes carried the 1295 Squadron Banner with Cadet Flt Sgt Andrew Buchan as Escort. All cadets who attended enjoyed the tea laid on at Longside Football Club after the event.

If any young person is interested in joining the Air Cadets in Peterhead please come and see us at the TA Centre on a Monday or Friday evenings from 7:15pm onwards or e mail oc.1295@aircadets.org – cadets start from age 13.
