Staff at a Peterhead bookmakers have won a national award for outstanding service to the public at a ceremony held in Brighton.

The staff at William Hill on Chapel Street were voted top shop in the group’s Scottish region to the delight of deputy manager Rosie Keith.

“We were in Brighton for the ceremony, and were shocked when it was announced we were the winners of Region 4 which is the Scottish region of the company,” she said.

“It was a great thrill for all the four staff who pride themselves on serving the Peterhead punters.”

The public who use the popular facility were equally delighted that its local shop had won the award.

‘“The staff all go out of their way to look after us when we pop in for a bet. There’s always a friendly smile, while coffee is on offer at anytime of the day,’’ said John Elliot who is a regular in the shop and comes most days of the week from nearby Longhaven.

“Even when you lose there is a sympathetic smile, but to date I have been very lucky in this shop,’’ he added.

Not content with winning the top shop staff members, Angela Ward, Stephanie Steinbach and Vikki Davidson, will continue to support local charities in the town.

‘’Our users are very good and happy to give to local charities. If there was an award for customers Peterhead would surely win. I like to think they helped us win this award,’’ said Rosie.
