And RNLI Peterhead’s Tamar-class lifeboat The Misses Robertson of Kintail was requested by Aberdeen Coastguard.

An RNLI spokesperson confirmed that one person was rescued by the harbour pilot boat, and that the volunteer crew searched the harbour area for a ‘number of hours’ without finding any casualties.

They then stood by the burning fishing boat while the fire service dealt with the fire.

A Fire Scotland spokesperson said that there are ‘no reported casualties at this incident’ and that the cause of the fire is as yet unknown.

However, they are working with Police Scotland to ascertain the cause, but it is too early to comment whether it was deliberate.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “There will be joint operation between ourselves and Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

“It is too early to say if there is any suspicious circumstances.”
