TWO people have been tragically killed in an accident which took place on Sunday afternoon on the Peterhead to Fraserburgh road.

Identified locally as John Richards, a 22-year-old delivery driver from Peterhead, and girlfriend, Dora Belk (25), the pair were going to Fraserburgh in a Honda Civic when it was involved in a collision with a Fiat Ducato van owned by Peterhead Joiners at Philorth at around 4.10pm.

Both John and Dora tragically died at the scene while the 24-year-old male driver of the van - who has not yet been named - was conveyed by ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where he was treated for various non life-threatening injuries.

A family friend of both John and Dora told the Buchanie: “It’s a very difficult time for the families. It’s been really heard and just shocking.”

The owner of Peterhead Joiners, told the Buchanie: “The driver of the van does work for myself. I haven’t spoken to him personally, however I have spoke to his family who would prefer not to disclose his name.

“I believe he has hurt his foot, but is in a stable condition and is expected to come home today (Monday).”

Appealing for witnesses, Sergeant David Pirie of the Grampian Road Policing Department, who attended the scene, said: “Tragically, two young people have died today as a result of this collision. Next of kin of those involved have been informed.

“This will obviously be a particularly difficult time for all of the family and friends of the two people who died, and my thoughts are with them at this sad time.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and collision investigators have spent around eight hours carrying out a detailed examination of the scene.

“Although we’ve spoken with a number of witnesses, we are aware that some may have left the scene prior to our arrival.

“We’d obviously like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or its immediate aftermath. I appeal to anyone who has not yet spoken with us to get in touch as soon as possible. We’re particularly keen to trace the occupants of a dark green or possibly silver saloon car, possibly an MG that stopped at the scene.

“We’d also like to speak with anyone who saw a fairly distinctive dark blue Honda Civic being driven on the A90 between Peterhead and Fraserburgh during the late afternoon of Sunday.”
