Banff and Buchan College’s Scottish Maritime Academy had a special guest speaker last week.
Bill West, Inspector from the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) dropped by on Tuesday, April 23 to give a presentation to students on safety at sea.
Speaking to the Buchanie before his presentation, Bill said: “I will be explaining who the Marine Accident Investigation is, our roles and responsibilities and exactly how we work and do investigations to improve marine safety.
“We offer presentations to nautical colleges around the UK, including here in Peterhead, as part of us getting the safety message across for the future.”
The Marine Accident Investigation Branch examines and investigates all types of marine accidents to or on board UK ships worldwide, and other ships in UK territorial waters.
The MAIB investigates incidents including the loss or abandonment of a ship, death, serious injury, or loss of a person from a ship and the disabling of a ship.
