A grand gesture

Buchan Dial-a-Community Bus volunteer Ian Morris received a donation for £1,000 towards the charity’s “New Bus Appeal” recently.

Ray Chappell of Well Ops decided to put Dial-a-Community Bus forward to his employers as a potential recipient of their Safety Charity Awards after a chance meeting with Ian who is a long-term volunteer with the organisation.

Ian was very pleased that DACB was successful and that £1,000 would go towards the purchase of the new vehicle.

He said: “Ray is a really nice person and it was really kind of him to put DACB forwards for this award.

“Without the support of companies like Well Ops and individuals like Ray it would be much more difficult to raise the money we need for the new buses, and they are really desperately needed right now.”

Thanks to support from Well Ops, the Clothworkers Foundation and Robertson Trust, DACB has now raised the £40,000 necessary to purchase one vehicle, which is vitally needed by the organisation after one of the oldest buses was decommissioned early in January.

However, this is not the end of the New Bus Appeal as the organisation has another 12 year-old vehicle which badly needs replacing, so it intends to continue fundraising as a priority during 2012.
