A community group has raised enough money in just a few weeks to ensure that Peterhead will have Christmas lights this festive season.

Light Up Peterhead have raised enough funds thanks to donations from businesses and locals all over the Blue Toon to light up the town on Saturday November 28.

The big switch on will be a celebration of local talent in Drummers Corner leading up to the switching on of the lights by Light Up Peterhead at 4.00pm.

From midday until 4.00pm Modo will host a variety of performers including Serena Wilson School of Highland Dance, Lucie Summers Dance, Lawrence School of Dance and the fabulous Blue Toon All Stars and Trinity Players from Willowbank.

CircoModo will then entertain the crowds with their fire performances leading up to the 4.00pm switch on.

Theresa Ritchie, Development Worker with Modo said: “Thanks to a lot of hard work by the Light Up Peterhead Group, the town will have its lights.”

There will also be appearances from the Snow Queen and a new, very tall Santa.

There will also be a late night opening on Friday November 27 where most shops will stay open until 8pm and many will have special offers as it coincides with the biggest retail sale day of the year - Black Friday.
