Time is running out to vote for a north-east cancer support charity as it looks to secure community funding that will enable it to move to a new centre in Peterhead.
CLAN Cancer Support has been put forward to receive up to £5,000 from Aviva, but needs the support of the public to make it through to the final.
The Aviva Community Fund offers support and funding to local causes which are voted for online. If successful CLAN will put the money towards moving to new premises in Peterhead to enable it to support more people in the area who are affected by cancer.
And with public voting open until May 30, the charity is issuing one last appeal for votes. The projects with the most votes will advance to the final which will be judged by the Aviva panel.
Susan Crighton, CLAN’s fundraising manager, said: “Throughout the month, we’ve already seen over 1,000 votes registered for CLAN but we really do need every last one if we are to stand a chance of progressing through to the judging stage of the competition.
“At the moment, we currently open two days a week in Peterhead but we really want to increase this provision and if we are lucky enough to win, we would use the £5,000 to do just that.
“Moving to a bigger space in the town would allow us to increase our opening hours and support more people in the area with cancer. The money would be a massive help in purchasing furniture and paint for the new space, with any remaining funds being used towards expanding our therapies in Peterhead.
“All those who have voted so far, I thank you massively from everyone here at CLAN and for those who haven’t, if you could spare five minutes to register online, it really would be of massive benefit to the charity.”
CLAN currently offers a support and information service every Wednesday and Friday at The Hot Spot in Peterhead as well as access to a range of complementary therapies.
