Scottish concert at St Fergus

In the York Street Hall, Peterhead, ministry meetings are being held this week from Tuesday to Thursday inclusive, September 11, 12 and 13, commencing at 7.30pm each evening. The speaker is J. Grant.

The new session of the Methodist Church Sisterhood begins on Wednesday, September 12, at 7.15pm. Some business matters will be dealt with and the minister, the Rev. Isobel Akers, is the speaker. All ladies are very welcome.

St. Fergus Parish Church is holding a Scottish Concert starring Eddie Rose and champion accordionist, Sandy Lindsay. This will be in St. Fergus Public Hall on Thursday, September 13, at 7.30pm. The tickets are £6 which includes tea and they can be obtained by phoning 01779-838581 or by paying at the door.

The Blythswood Care collecting vehicle is due to visit Peterhead and district again to receive donations of items to help the charity in its extensive relief work, the date being Thursday, September 13. All gifts will be received most gratefully.

The vehicle will be in the former Focus car park, off Catto Drive, from 9.30am until 12.30pm. Then, after calling at Crimond at 1.15pm, it will be at Fraserburgh Leisure Centre until 4.30pm.

The following report has come from the friends of St. Drostan’s Episcopal Church, Old Deer. Saturday, August 25, saw a very happy gathering of 40 members and their friends and families enjoying yet another BBQ at Backhill of Auchmachar, with all sorts of super eats and drinks contributed by those present.

Then, on Thursday, August 30, a large crowd of people from all over the area assembled in St. Drostan’s to listen with great interest to the “Annual Lecture”, given this year by Mr. Gordon Hay on “The Doric New Testament”. Refreshments served afterwards in the Kemp Hall ended a very enjoyable evening.

Among the principal guests was the Rt. Reverend Robert Gillies, Bishop of Aberdeen and Orkney.

On Sunday, September 16, in Old Deer Church, morning worship commences at 10.30am and will be led by the Rev. Sheila Kirk. All are invited and welcome.

The Sunday School meets also at that time. Crèche facilities are available during the service and teas will be served afterwards.

There is to be a service in Fetterangus Church at 6pm on Sunday, September 16, and this will be led by the Rev. Sheila Kirk, the theme being “I am the true Vine”. A musical item will be provided by Barbara and Peter. All are welcome and there will be a time afterwards for teas and fellowship.

On Wednesday, September 19, Deer Parish Church Prayer Group meets in Old Deer Church from 6.30-7.15pm

Peterhead Fishermen’s Mission has the Nightcap Service on Sunday, September 16, commencing at 8pm. All are welcome.

Peterhead Congregational Church Ladies’ Guild begins again on Monday, September 17, at 7.30pm with the church minister, the Rev. J. McMillan, as speaker.

St. Drostan’s Episcopal Church, Old Deer, is having a Quiz Night in the Stuartfield Hall on Saturday, September 22, commencing at 7.30pm.

On Saturday, October 6, a Social Evening is to be held in Peterhead Methodist Church, Queen Street, in aid of “Open Doors” – an organisation which seeks to give help to persecuted Christians worldwide. Commencing at 7pm, the programme will include entertainment provided by Burnhaven School Choir and Douglas Erskine will be speaking as an “Open Doors” representative.

There is a warm invitation to come along and support this very worthy cause for which a freewill offering will be received on the night.

All are very welcome and refreshments are to be served also.

Cruden Parish Church is holding a coffee morning on Saturday, September 15, in the Church Hall from 10am-12 noon, in aid of Malawi and Mission Aviation Fellowship.

The Church walk on Sunday, September 16, is to Tolquhon leaving at 11.30am from the church.

Fundraising for the replacement of further windows in the Church is continuing with the sale of Cruden Country Calendar 2013.
